|
Definition |
It is a professional power distribution device that integrates personal safety protection, stage equipment compatibility, and power supply reliability. In addition to providing conventional overload and short-circuit protection, it has a built-in leakage current protection function, making it a key electrical device to ensure the safety of stage staff. |
This refers to a stage power distribution system that only equips the power distribution with sub-branch switches (circuit breakers) for overload and short-circuit protection, while omitting the residual current device (RCD). |
|
Advantages |
1. Multiple independent outputs, each with its own circuit breaker/residual current device (RCD), facilitating branch management. 2. Real-time protection against electric shock. 3. Protection against electrical fires. 4. Protection against equipment damage. 5. Clearly marked "RCD" (Residual Current Device) on the panel. 6.Pominent "T" test button on the panel. |
It will continue to work even in the event of a leakage, without tripping the circuit breaker or affecting the performance. |
|
Disadvantages |
A leakage current will trip the circuit breaker, shutting down the equipment and potentially affecting the performance.
★★Special Note: EPTE equipment with leakage protection employs a "tiered protection" strategy to ensure selective tripping. In the event of a fault, only the smallest affected area is disconnected, preventing disruption to the entire performance. Furthermore, our main circuit breaker can optionally disable the leakage protection function, ensuring the smooth running of the performance. |
1. Unable to detect and respond to "current leakage." 2. Prone to causing equipment damage. 3. Poses safety hazards to personnel, with risks of fatal electric shock. 4. Carries risks of electrical fires. 5. Requires professional installation, inspection, and routine checks. 6. Regular testing for leakage is necessary. |
|
Venue |
Venue where staff can directly access equipment, such as:
1. Studios 2. Commercial theaters 3. Touring venues 4. School auditoriums 5. Outdoor music festivals, or humid environments with water or dry ice effects on the stage. 6. Temporary power supply areas such as backstage/orchestra pit/audience areas. such as backstage/orchestra pits/audience sections. |
1. Suitable for specific "clean" equipment circuits, such as: 2. Large professional audio amplifier cabinets. 3. Pure motors such as booms, lifting platforms, and turntables. 4. Isolated specialized equipment. |
EPTE Power Distribution with Leakage Protection:
"Graded Leakage Protection" Solution
Safety is the backbone of every successful performance. In modern electrical design, omitting residual current devices (RCDs) poses unacceptable risks. As technology evolves, the industry standard has shifted toward "intelligent configuration and tiered protection."
EPTE’s custom power distribution box is engineered to balance safety with reliability. Our sophisticated electrical designs protect personnel while ensuring performance continuity, minimizing any disruption through advanced graded protection technology.

Configuration Method |
Only one residual current device (RCD) is installed at the main incoming switch in the distribution box. This main RCD monitors the total current of all downstream branches. |
After the main switch without a residual current device (RCD), install an independent RCD for each functional group (e.g., lighting area, sound area, LED screen area, special effects area). Each group's RCD only monitors a few branch circuits within its group (normally six circuits per group). |
After the main switch (without residual current protection), each output circuit (each socket or each output) is equipped with an independent residual current device (usually RCBO, which is a combination of residual current protection and miniature circuit breaker). |
|
Working Principle |
Main residual current circuit breaker → Multiple miniature circuit breakers (MCBs) → Each output socket |
Main switch → [Group 1 RCSM → Several MCBs] / [Group 2 RCSM → Several MCBs] / …… |
Main switch → Residual current circuit breaker 1 → Socket 1 / Residual current circuit breaker 2 → Socket 2 / . |
|
Advantages |
1. Lowest cost: Only one residual current device (RCD) is needed, resulting in low equipment cost.
2. Simple structure: Wiring is clear and maintenance is intuitive. |
1. Group Fault Isolation, Reliable Power Supply: When a leakage occurs in a group of equipment (such as lighting), only the residual current device (RCD) of that group trips, cutting off the faulty circuit. Power supply to other groups re
2. Rapid Fault Localization: After tripping, the functional area where the fault occurred can be immediately located, significantly shortening troubleshooting time..
3. Ensures Safety and Stable Power Supply: Provides reliable power supply while ensuring safety. |
1. Highest Fault Isolation Precision and Maximum Power Supply Reliability: A fault in a single device or socket only disconnects that specific circuit, minimizing the impact and virtually eliminating interference with other devices.
2. Most Accurate Fault Localization: Tripping immediately pinpoints the original fault location, enabling extremely rapid troubleshooting
3. Individual Circuit Management: Offers the most flexible configuration; each circuit can be independently controlled and managed. |
|
Disadvantages |
1. Poor Reliability, Prone to False Tripping: Even minor leakage in any branch circuit or equipment may cause a trip, leading to power outages and performance interruptions.
2. Difficult Fault Diagnosis: After a trip, all branches and devices must be checked one by one to find the fault, which is very time-consuming. highly time-consuming.
★★ Special Note: EPTE's main circuit breaker with leakage protection can optionally disable the leakage protection function to ensure the smooth operation of the performance. |
1. Higher Cost: Requires multiple groups of residual current devices (RCDs).
2. Still Involves a Certain Scope of Power Outage: A single RCD may contain multiple devices; a tripping of that group will disconnect all devices within the group. |
1. Highest Cost: Requires a large number of RCBO modules.
2. Heavier Enclosure: For the same number of circuits, the enclosure may be heavier and larger. |
|
Applicable Scenarios |
1. Small-scale, temporary activities with extremely low requirements for power supply continuity. 2. Or as a supplement to other solutions. |
1. Medium to large-scale performances. 2. Fixed installations in theaters, etc. |
1. Large-scale, high-profile performances. 2. Large-scale television variety show productions. 3. Key mission scenarios. |
★★The current mainstream solution is to use a combination of "main switch with leakage protection + RCD circuit breaker (with shut-off function)" to make the power distribution, which can achieve both safety and cost savings.
